Wars are the biggest threat humanity ever faced. In the last century, millions of lives have been lost in World War 1 & 2 regardless of who won. And currently, Russia and Ukraine are at war.
The two states have been on bad terms since Ukraine`s revolution followed by the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014. Russia recently supported the Separatist Fighters of the Donetsk People’s Republic and The Luhansk Peoples of Republic. And on 21 Feb 2022 Russia officially recognized both as independent states and after three days on 24 Feb 2022 Russian president Putin marked the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine during a television broadcast.
This war has caused tens of thousands of deaths on both sides and Europe’s largest refugee crisis since World War 2. But that’s not all, the estimated damage caused by this very war is somewhat around $350 Billion US. Even still many are unaccounted for.
Generally, wars have negatively wedged business. Wars intrude on the interdependency between nations. Eventually resulting in restraint of trade of some products in certain nations.
Some individuals think war is a good thing for business, but it is only true for industries involved in manufacturing war-related goods. At the time of the invasion, countless companies were operational in these states, and as a consequence of the invasion about 1000 companies were curtailed from Russia. But it’s a different story in Ukraine several companies are offering their support in a time of need.
To determine the economic damage caused by the war an analysis of 280 German companies that have business relations with both states was led.
According to it, the war is currently still triggering an immense deal of insecurity in the companies, about 41% are unable to evaluate the effect on their business, 46% expect a drop in sales,47% drop in earnings, 80% assume undesirable effect will last longer than a year and 40% assume damaging effect will last longer than three years.
Since the invasion was started by Russia, it has faced many sanctions, due to these happenings many direct supply chains with both nations and supply chains via Russia to Asia have been ruined, which has caused the escalation of prices of countless raw materials and shipping amenities.
The World anticipated that the war-compelled wave in energy prices could reduce global output by 0.8% in just 2 years while affecting many major sectors. The worldwide economy is expected to further slow in the distant future as the immense and notable energy shock started by Russia`s war of aggression continues.
War can never bring peace, instead, it expands the involved states of their resources, capital, and most of their people. And Russia-Ukraine war is evidence of this, the only thing it instigated was disorder in Ukraine, insecurity, worldwide economic surge, undesirable effects on companies, and also disruption in trade.
The companies operating in Russia and Ukraine at the time of war mostly suffer the utmost in the war. The war is still unending, only time will state, whether the companies can recuperate or not.
